Senior Animator

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Lead Animator, the Senior Animator is responsible for creating high quality animations for gameplay, cinematics, and everything in between. The Senior Animator needs to have solid animation skills, a firm background in storytelling and cinematics, an understanding of gameplay mechanics and timing, as well as strong organizational and communication skills. This role involves working with a combination of motion capture data and hand-key animation. Previous experience in a senior role, with thorough knowledge of game animation pipelines, is highly desired.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Create dynamic gameplay animation and engrossing cinematic animation, using a combination of motion capture and hand-key animation

  • Work closely with the Lead Animator to provide reasonable time estimates, and make sure that the quality bar is being hit while still meeting deadlines

  • Work with TAs to ensure that all rigs function properly

  • Collaborate with designers and programmers to implement and iterate on animations to create compelling, entertaining, and visually appealing gameplay and/or cinematic events

  • Attend standups and meetings as required.

  • Know the game’s story and gameplay (game design documents) to better inform the animation work being done

  • Act as a mentor to junior/mid-level animators in terms of technical/artistic aspects

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience animating

  • Solid knowledge and experience with Maya

  • Works well with tight deadlines and in a fast pace environment

  • Excellent knowledge of physics and anatomy as it pertains to animation

  • Good understanding of animation principles (timing, staging, follow through, etc.)

  • Experience animating with motion capture

  • Experience working on cut scenes and/or interactive animation

  • Extensive experience animating realistic humans, including facial animation

  • Good understanding of acting principles 

  • Experience working on gameplay animation (locomotion, combat, etc)

  • Must be able to work across different departments

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Critical thinking and problem solving

  • Self-starter with proactive attitude to improve own qualifications

  • Knowledge sharing attitude
