Senior Environment Artist

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Environment Lead, the Senior Environment Artist is responsible for effectively collaborating with a wide-range of development team members outside of their direct discipline, such as the Art Director, Designers, Technical Artists, Animators, Programmers and Producers, to optimally achieve artistic goals and implementation as they relate to design and technological considerations. Create high quality artistic content for the project in respect of technical constraints and artistic direction, while supporting the Environment Lead on management focused tasks.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for creating a very high quality of environment art.

  • Be able to mentor and work well with others within the team.

  • Work closely with Programmers to ensure polygon counts and texture sizes are fully optimized for target platforms while minimizing any impact on artistic integrity of assets.

  • Participate in R&D of new techniques to implement into production pipeline.

  • Proactively seek feedback from Lead Artist, and Creative Directors.

  • Ensure that artistic style is consistent with defined visual style for the game.

  • Content creation, including 3D modeling/sculpting, 2D texture map painting, material setup/UV layout, and LOD creation according to defined quality standards, artistic styles, conceptual designs, development pipelines, technical parameters and production goals.

  • Maintain the artistic direction and vision through all phases of the game development cycle from pre-production through final product release. This entails ensuring environment/level assets are of the highest artistic quality and upholding the integrity of the games design and artistic vision of the game as a whole.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the games design to support communication and enable early identification of issues, as well as help drive participation in discussions.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of post-secondary educational experience in 2D and 3D art production.

  • Proven track record in at least 2 shipped titles (preferably AAA).

  • Superior 2D and 3D art skills.

  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of cutting edge shader techniques.

  • Excellent compositional skills and all-around artistic expertise and flare.

  • Eagerness to learn new software tools and technologies.

  • Ability to work in a team setting, under deadlines and time constraints.

  • Expertise in 3ds Max, Photoshop, or other technologies utilized in the production of game art.

  • Strong technical background with ability to grasp new programs and systems quickly.

  • Ability to work with a high degree of self-direction and motivation.

  • Strong communication and time management skills.

  • Able to prioritize and multi-task.
